Expertise

Metaxia (Xenia) Stavroulaki works as an engineer at the facility since July 2020. Her role is to develop a complete cryo-tomography workflow for lamella preparation for use in the Titan Krios. She is the main operator of the light microscopes and the Aquilos2 for FIB-milling. For the future, she wishes to have as many users as possible trained on those machines so that they can comfortably work on their samples themselves.

Xenia's great interest in cryo-EM rose with the adoption of this position and involves the merging of the two microscopy worlds for revealing the hidden details of the cell. In order to be able to "see into something", you need to know what you are looking for but also have the right eyes for it. That is the role of our machines and she is excited to work on optimizing the experimental conditions for an effective glance into the speciments.

Her position is funded by the Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP)
